BBC News to replace theme tune with something a little less banging for a 10pm on a Tuesday

The BBC is reportedly considering replacing its iconic News theme tune after concerns it may be “a bit too much of an absolute rager” for viewers trying to wind down at 10pm.

The current theme, widely regarded as one of the hardest tracks ever commissioned by a public broadcaster, has long been suspected of being DJ-friendly. Sources claim you could “drop it in Berghain or literally anywhere” and it would go off, absolute weapon.

However, BBC executives now fear the tune’s energy is mismatched with the average viewer’s mental state, which typically sits somewhere between “mildly concerned” and “fully horizontal on the sofa.”

One regular viewer said, “I watch the news at 10 every Tuesday night just trying to settle down. Then the tune kicks in and suddenly I’m getting acid flashbacks from my youth. Feels like there’s a bit of White Dove lodged somewhere in my stomach and the bass just unlocks it. Next thing I know I’m absolutely pinging and I've got work in the morning!”

Despite this, the viewer admitted the music does improve the experience. “It does make the news seem a bit better, to be fair. You hear about global catastrophe but it’s like… quite uplifting like a kind of Corporo-techno Prog Music”

The BBC says a replacement track will aim for something “more ambient, less likely to trigger a full-body reload.”
